Job Title
Precision Analog Data Converter Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead architect and designer for high-performance analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. You will define converter architectures, drive circuit design and behavioral modeling, and lead silicon validation and performance optimization across cross-functional teams.
Experience Level
Senior β experienced analog IC designer. Role expects roughly 10+ years of proven experience in ADC/DAC design and delivery.
Responsibilities
The role covers end-to-end converter architecture, circuit design, modeling, silicon validation, and technical leadership.
- Architect next-generation data converter solutions (high-resolution and high-speed ADCs; high-performance DACs).
- Translate system-level requirements (SNR, SFDR, ENOB, bandwidth, power) into block-level specifications.
- Drive detailed circuit design: front-end signal conditioning, references, clocking, sampling circuits, precision analog core.
- Develop system-level and behavioral models (MATLAB/Simulink, Verilog-A/AMS) to validate architecture and dynamic performance.
- Design and analyze critical blocks: comparators, opamps, DAC elements, reference buffers, clocking circuits.
- Implement calibration, linearity enhancement, mismatch correction, and DEM techniques.
- Perform deep analysis of performance metrics (SNR, SNDR, SFDR, INL/DNL, jitter sensitivity) and correlate with silicon results.
- Lead silicon validation, debug, and performance optimization across PVT corners.
- Mentor junior designers and serve as technical interface with system teams and customers.
- Drive innovation and develop differentiated, potentially patentable architectures.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and proven delivery in high-performance converter design.
- Extensive hands-on experience designing ADC and DAC architectures (SAR, Sigma-Delta DT/CT, time-interleaved ADCs; current-steering and segmented DACs).
- Deep understanding of noise shaping, quantization noise, distortion mechanisms, clocking and jitter effects.
- Experience with calibration techniques (background/foreground, DEM, mismatch correction).
- Strong analog design skills addressing bandwidth, settling, distortion, and parasitic effects.
- System-level modeling and behavioral simulation experience (MATLAB/Simulink, Verilog-A/AMS).
- Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso/Spectre and mixed-signal simulation flows.
- Proven track record taking converter designs from concept through silicon validation and production.
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams and customers.
- Nice-to-have: patents or publications in data converter design and demonstrated innovation.
Education Requirements
MS in Electrical Engineering (with ~12+ years of relevant experience) or PhD in Electrical Engineering (with ~10+ years of relevant experience) as stated in the source posting.
