Job Title

Precision Analog Data Converter Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead architect and designer for high-performance analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. The role covers system-and-circuit-level definition, modeling, silicon implementation, validation, and cross-functional technical leadership within a mixed-signal design team.

Experience Level

Senior β€” expects experienced candidates (guidance: senior-level, see Education Requirements for explicit experience expectations).

Responsibilities

Design and deliver next-generation precision data converters from architecture through silicon validation.

  • Define architectures for high-resolution and high-speed ADCs (SAR, Sigma-Delta DT/CT, Time-Interleaved) and high-performance DACs (current-steering, charge-redistribution, segmented).
  • Translate system-level requirements (SNR, SFDR, ENOB, bandwidth, power) into component and sub-block specifications.
  • Drive end-to-end design: front-end signal conditioning, references, clocking, sampling circuits, precision analog core, and DAC elements.
  • Develop system-level and behavioral models (MATLAB/Simulink, Verilog-A/AMS) to validate architecture and dynamic performance.
  • Design and analyze critical analog blocks: comparators, opamps, reference buffers, clocking circuits; address DAC mismatch and ADC linearity.
  • Perform detailed performance analysis (SNR, SNDR, SFDR, INL/DNL, jitter sensitivity) and correlate with silicon results across PVT corners.
  • Lead silicon validation, debug, performance optimization, and production readiness.
  • Serve as technical lead with system teams and customers; mentor junior designers and build organizational design capability.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Deep expertise in ADC and DAC architectures: SAR, Sigma-Delta (DT and CT), Time-Interleaved ADCs; current-steering and segmented DACs.
  • In-depth understanding of noise shaping, quantization noise, distortion mechanisms, calibration techniques (background/foreground, DEM, mismatch correction), and jitter impact.
  • Proven hands-on experience with high-speed analog design issues: bandwidth, settling, distortion, and parasitics.
  • Experience with system-level modeling and behavioral simulation: MATLAB/Simulink and Verilog-A/AMS.
  • Practical experience with Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, and mixed-signal simulation flows.
  • Track record of taking converter designs through silicon validation to production; strong debug and optimization skills across PVT corners.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams and external customers; mentoring and technical leadership experience.
  • Nice-to-have: patents or publications in data converter design.

Education Requirements

MS in Electrical Engineering with 12+ years of relevant ADC/DAC design experience, or PhD with 10+ years of relevant ADC/DAC design experience.
