Power & Performance Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
Power & Performance Engineer
Role Summary
Join an Intel Israel engineering team focused on next-generation AI hardware. The role owns pod-level power and performance metrics for large-scale AI data center deployments and drives improvements in telemetry, modeling, and power management to maximize throughput within thermal and power constraints.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically 5+ years of relevant experience in power, performance, or systems optimization.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include measuring, validating, and improving power/performance at pod scale and operating the telemetry/modeling toolchain.
- Own pod-level power, performance-per-watt, capacity, and utilization metrics for large-scale AI pods.
- Operate and drive requirements for a partner-developed modeling and telemetry platform; provide feedback to improve accuracy and coverage.
- Aggregate silicon and rack telemetry to pod level; reconcile measured vs. modeled metrics and maintain the pod power/performance budget.
- Implement and tune power telemetry, capping, and dynamic power management (RAPL, P/C-states, DVFS) to maximize throughput within power/thermal envelopes.
- Develop workload characterization and benchmarking pipelines (e.g., SPEC, MLPerf, AI workloads) to identify bottlenecks and inform capacity planning.
- Collaborate with facilities, electrical, and platform teams on power distribution, PUE targets, and peak-demand management at pod scale.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Preferred items are listed separately.
- 5+ years experience in power, performance, systems optimization, or related roles.
- Deep knowledge of CPU and GPU power management, performance counters, and Linux power frameworks.
- Experience with power telemetry and dynamic power management mechanisms (RAPL, P-states/C-states, DVFS).
- Proficiency in data analysis using Python and/or SQL.
- Experience building or operating benchmarking and workload characterization pipelines for AI or HPC workloads.
- Ability to work with telemetry/modeling platforms and reconcile measured vs. modeled data.
- Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams (facilities, electrical, platform owners).
- Nice-to-have: PUE/thermal modeling, pod-level capacity planning, and AI cluster scaling experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (as stated in the posting).
