Power Management Systems Design and Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Design, integrate, and verify power management hardware and firmware (PMIC) at the chipset or feature level. Work with cross-functional teams to specify products, develop test platforms, and ensure system-level performance and power targets are met.

Experience Level

Entry-level - typically 1+ year of engineering experience; role works under supervision and supports chipset-level PMIC design and verification.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, verification, and system integration tasks for PMICs and related test platforms.

• Specify PMIC functions and supporting software to meet chipset requirements.
• Support research, design, and development of power management hardware and firmware.
• Develop and assist with HW/SW test platforms, test plans, and post-silicon verification.
• Triage and root-cause system-level power and performance issues.
• Develop and review PCB schematics and layouts for subsystem designs under guidance.
• Use design and simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB, Excel, Mentor Graphics) for system design tasks.
• Document component selection, data, and basic functionality for PMIC subsystems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

• At least 1 year of engineering experience in software, hardware, electrical, systems, or related engineering work.
• Familiarity with PMIC systems and power electronics fundamentals (switch-mode and linear).
• Experience with firmware development and scripting (Python or similar).
• Experience with PCB layout, power distribution networks, and basic thermal analysis.
• Experience supporting test platform HW/SW development and post-silicon verification.
• Proficient in troubleshooting and system-level root-cause analysis.
• Ability to use design/simulation tools such as MATLAB and Mentor Graphics; basic spreadsheet proficiency.
• Good verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field plus 1+ year of relevant engineering experience, OR a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Preferred background includes 2+ years experience in areas such as SMPS, LDO, buck/boost converters, clock generation/distribution, battery charging/USB, wireless charging, fuel gauging, haptics, precision references, mobile hardware, PWB design, and chipset digital interfaces.
