Linux Software Engineer - System Manager

Role Summary

Develop and maintain system management firmware and system-control support for the i.MX SoC portfolio. The role focuses on porting firmware to new SoCs and development boards, improving firmware test coverage and performance, and producing documentation and support collateral.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early-career - 2+ years of embedded software development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, porting, testing, and documenting system management firmware, and working with cross-functional teams to integrate and optimize system-control features.

• Architect system management features across the i.MX portfolio and drive SoC hardware support for system control.
• Port system management firmware to new i.MX SoCs and development boards.
• Develop tests to increase code coverage and assess firmware performance metrics.
• Create documentation and support collateral for system management firmware.
• Collaborate with SoC architecture and BSP teams (system ROM, ELE ROM/firmware, U-Boot, ATF, Linux, MCU SDK) to integrate and optimize system management functions.
• Port, debug, and optimize system management firmware on internal and customer systems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

• Must-have: 2+ years of embedded software development experience.
• Proficiency in C for embedded systems.
• Proficiency with Linux shell and common tools (Git, make) for embedded development.
• Experience with ARM Cortex-M and Cortex-A architectures.
• Knowledge of ARM assembly language.
• Nice-to-have: experience with embedded debug tools and probes (e.g. Lauterbach).
• Knowledge of power management (DVFS, CPUIdle, suspend-to-RAM) in embedded systems.
• Familiarity with HDL (Verilog, VHDL).
• Familiarity with the ARM System Control and Management Interface (SCMI) specification.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a similar discipline (as stated in the posting).
