Power Management Systems Design and Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Design, integrate and verify power-management hardware and firmware at the chipset and feature level as a member of the PMIC Systems team within Qualcomm's Engineering Group. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet system-level performance, power, and reliability targets.

Experience Level

Entry-level - requires approximately 1+ year of relevant engineering experience (see Education Requirements for degree-level options).

Responsibilities

Work under supervision to support PMIC systems research, specification, development, integration and verification activities.

• Specify PMIC product functions and supporting software to meet chipset requirements.
• Assist in hardware and software test platform development, test planning, and post-silicon verification.
• Triage system-level problems to identify root cause and propose fixes.
• Develop and review PCB schematics and layouts for PMIC sub-systems under guidance.
• Use design and simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB, Mentor Graphics, Excel) to execute system designs.
• Document component details, data, and functionality for PMIC subsystems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

• Must-have: Knowledge of PMIC systems and power-management concepts (switch-mode and linear power electronics).
• Must-have: Experience with firmware coding and scripting (Python or similar) for test and validation.
• Must-have: Experience with PCB layout, schematics, and power distribution network considerations.
• Must-have: Familiarity with test platform HW/SW development, post-silicon verification, and system-level debugging.
• Must-have: Experience using design/simulation tools such as MATLAB, Mentor Graphics, and Excel.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with SMPS, LDOs, buck/boost converters, clock distribution, battery charging/USB, battery fuel gauging, wireless charging, haptics, precision references, mobile-phone hardware, or PWB design.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with chipset infrastructure, digital interfaces, thermal analysis, and battery chemistry.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field plus 1+ year of engineering experience, OR a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
