Power Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Power Engineer
Role Summary
Work on RTL and SoC power analysis and optimization for ASIC/IP development. The role focuses on defining, modeling, designing, verifying, and documenting low-power solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams across the product lifecycle.
Experience Level
Entry-level (early career). The posting requests approximately 2+ years of related experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include RTL-level power optimization, verification, and cross-team coordination for low-power IP/SoC delivery.
- Define, model, design, verify, validate, implement, and document IP/block and SoC power solutions.
- Perform RTL power analysis and optimization; apply low-power design patterns and techniques.
- Collaborate with synthesis, place-and-route, backend and emulation teams to ensure power- and timing-aware implementations.
- Debug RTL and gate-level power anomalies and identify root causes.
- Develop automation, data pipelines, and analysis flows to support power optimization and reporting.
- Document methodologies, implement best practices, and communicate results to stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Degree details are listed separately under Education Requirements.
- Understanding of RTL power optimization fundamentals: switching activity, clock/enable efficiency, and common low-power RTL patterns.
- Familiarity with RTL power analysis and optimization tools such as PowerArtist, PTPX, PowerPro, or equivalents.
- Knowledge of low-power techniques: clock gating, power gating, and managing dynamic vs. leakage power tradeoffs.
- Familiarity with Emulation Power flow and methodology.
- Awareness of backend flows (logic synthesis, place-and-route) and how RTL impacts post-layout power and timing.
- Hands-on experience debugging RTL or gate-level power anomalies.
- Strong Python skills for automation and data-analysis pipelines; experience applying AI/ML techniques to analysis is a plus.
- Strong analytical, debugging, written and verbal communication, and collaboration skills in a fast-paced global environment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is required. The posting also accepts a Master's degree; it specifies 2+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or a Master's degree.
