Job Title

Power and Performance Engineer, PAI Platforms and Performance Analysis

Role Summary

Hands-on engineering role in Arm's Platforms and Performance Analysis team focused on power and performance profiling of SoC platforms across pre-silicon and post-silicon phases. The role supports TDP definition, workload automation, methodology for PnP analysis, and defining product requirements for robotics and automotive PAI products.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Level - Mid-Career).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include hands-on profiling, automation development, methodology definition, and cross-team reporting.

  • Profile power and performance of SoC platforms across CPU, GPU, NPU/AI accelerators, memory, interconnect, and full-system workloads.
  • Run benchmarks and real-world workloads on Linux-based devices, development boards, reference platforms, and pre/post-silicon environments.
  • Develop and maintain automation harnesses for workload execution, profiling, telemetry, power measurement, and result analysis.
  • Drive pre-silicon PnP methodology: workload selection, benchmark definition, estimation, and correlation planning.
  • Support post-silicon platform characterisation, bottleneck analysis, and power/performance trade-off studies.
  • Define TDP methodology linking workloads, sustained performance, peak power, thermal constraints, and product segments.
  • Specify power and performance requirements for PAI products targeting robotics and automotive markets.
  • Produce clear technical reports and recommendations for architecture, product, software, systems, and platform teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, with additional nice-to-have experience listed separately.

  • Practical experience in pre-silicon or post-silicon power and performance analysis of SoCs.
  • Experience across heterogeneous compute systems (CPU, GPU, NPU, memory, interconnect).
  • Hands-on experience running workloads on Linux-based devices, embedded platforms, or pre/post-silicon environments.
  • Experience developing or using automation harnesses for workload execution, data collection, profiling, and analysis.
  • Understanding of power, thermal, and performance trade-offs in complex SoCs.
  • Familiarity with profiling tools, performance counters, system traces, telemetry, or power measurement equipment.
  • Strong scripting and data-analysis skills (for example Python, shell scripting, or similar).
  • Ability to translate workload behaviour and product use cases into measurable engineering requirements and communicate trade-offs clearly.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with embedded robotics development platforms and platform performance analysis, silicon validation, or performance modelling.
  • Experience in automotive, robotics, edge AI, embedded AI, or heterogeneous compute platforms and familiarity with AI/ML or vision workloads.
  • Experience defining TDP, sustained performance targets, thermal constraints, or power envelope methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Arm architecture, Arm-based SoC platforms, Linux performance tools, and embedded software ecosystems.
  • Experience with tools such as perf, ftrace, trace-cmd, sysfs/procfs, vendor telemetry tools, power analysers, benchmark automation, lab infrastructure, or pre-silicon simulators/emulation/FPGA/virtual platforms.

Education Requirements

Degree or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent industry experience.
