Job Title

Power and Performance Design Engineer

Role Summary

The Power and Performance Design Engineer designs and optimizes power, thermal, and performance characteristics for IPs and SoCs. The role focuses on power/performance planning, characterization, and architectural trade-offs to meet product requirements across development platforms.

Works cross-functionally with design, architecture, binning/technology, and manufacturing teams to identify power activity zones, develop analysis tools and methodologies, and recommend architecture enhancements.

Experience Level

Senior β€” role requires substantial experience: typically 9+ years with a Bachelor's, 6+ years with a Master's, or 4+ years with a PhD (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning, analysis, validation, and cross-team coordination to achieve power and performance targets.

  • Design, develop, and execute power and performance plans for IPs and SoCs.
  • Perform feature analysis from power and performance perspectives and close gaps between observed behavior and targets on development platforms.
  • Optimize and characterize power, thermal, and performance-per-watt configurations aligned with architectural goals.
  • Develop tools and methodologies for architectural performance analysis and continuous power/performance improvement.
  • Collaborate with design, architecture, binning/technology, and manufacturing teams to meet consumption objectives.
  • Provide recommendations for future architectures and enhancements based on analysis and validation.
  • Analyze, validate, and tune system architectures and features to balance performance and power.

Requirements

  • Expertise in power and performance analysis and optimization methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of digital design fundamentals and electrical fundamentals.
  • Experience optimizing power, thermal, and performance/watt for complex SoCs or IP blocks.
  • Experience developing analysis tools or scripts for performance and power characterization.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with design, architecture, manufacturing, and test teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and disciplined execution of power and performance strategies.
  • Preferred: strong communication skills and demonstrable collaboration across engineering teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related specialized field with 9+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience; OR PhD with 4+ years of relevant experience.
