Job Title
PNR Engineer
Role Summary
Work in Arm's Solutions Engineering group on physical implementation and analysis for SoCs, CPU cores, interconnects and related IP. Deliver synthesis and place-and-route solutions, improve implementation flows, and contribute implementation methodologies that improve power, performance, area and integration for Arm designs and partner chips.
Role involves hands-on implementation, cross-team collaboration with RTL/IP designers and tool/EDA partners, and converting R&D concepts into production-ready implementation techniques.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically 2–4+ years of experience in ASIC implementation and physical design (STA, timing closure, place-and-route).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include implementing and optimizing designs, developing methodologies, and supporting partners to improve quality of results.
- Synthesis, physical design and implementation of CPU cores, system interconnects and other Arm designs.
- Analyze timing, area and power to improve design quality and close timing.
- Optimize design flows and methodologies to achieve best-in-class PPAT with internal and external teams.
- Develop and deploy new implementation methodologies to improve efficiency and results.
- Support detailed implementation analysis and data‑mining methodologies.
- Work with implementation and physical-IP RTL teams to drive analysis and optimization of IP.
- Convert R&D concepts into practical implementation solutions.
- Enable partners to achieve improved quality of results on their designs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience required for the role.
- 2–4+ years practical experience in ASIC implementation, physical design, STA and timing closure.
- Experience with structured clock tree synthesis, PDN analysis, DFM and physical verification.
- Experience across synthesis, floorplanning, place-and-route, CTS, logical and physical optimization, timing closure and power analysis flows.
- Strong problem solving and communication skills; ability to work across geographically distributed teams.
- Proven scripting/programming skills (examples: Tcl, Perl, Python, Make).
Nice-to-have
- Familiarity with Arm-based SoCs.
- Experience with additional scripting or data languages (sh, csh, R, C/C++, Java, JavaScript, HTML, Ruby) and data presentation.
- Experience with low-power techniques (power gating, voltage/frequency scaling), Verilog RTL design, ATPG or production testing.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or another relevant technical field.
