RTL Design Jobs, Level - Mid-Career

Job Title

PMTS Silicon Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement RTL and related logic for high-performance processor cores. Collaborate with hardware and software engineers on architecture and microarchitecture, and drive implementation through verification, synthesis, timing closure, and floorplanning to product tapeout and post-silicon debug.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Employer requires five (5) years of relevant experience in the role; alternative: Bachelor’s degree plus seven (7) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on microarchitecture and RTL implementation for processor pipelines and related subsystems.

  • Develop and code Verilog RTL for processor core pipeline blocks and associated logic.
  • Participate in microarchitecture definition for next-generation high-performance cores.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to define high-level architecture and interfaces.
  • Contribute to design verification, synthesis, place-and-route, timing convergence, and floorplanning.
  • Implement power reduction and power-management features; define clocking, reset, and power-up sequences.
  • Support product flow from clean-sheet design through tapeout and post-silicon debug.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Verilog RTL development with industry tools in CPU, SoC, or ASIC environments.
  • Processor architecture, logic design, and microarchitecture development.
  • RTL coding for high-speed processors; experience with power-saving techniques.
  • Knowledge of physical design and verification methods; synthesis, place-and-route, and timing-closure concepts.
  • ASIC implementation experience with synthesis flow and static timing analysis.
  • Experience with Microprocessor DFT (design-for-test) and DFD (design-for-debug) issues.
  • Familiarity with clocking, reset, power management, and power-up sequencing.
  • Experience with product bring-up: tapeout and post-silicon debug; strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Scripting with Perl, Shell, or Tcl.

Education Requirements

Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field is required. Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in these fields plus seven (7) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as an alternative. Foreign equivalents accepted.
