Job Title

PMTS OPC Engineer

Role Summary

The Optical Proximity Correction (OPC) Engineer develops and maintains computational lithography solutions and OPC technology files to enable robust patterning and manufacturability for advanced semiconductor processes. The role works across lithography, design rules, etch, modeling, mask, metrology, and infrastructure teams to improve pattern fidelity, process margin, and yield.

Experience Level

Mid-level - years of experience aligned with GLOBALFOUNDRIES career level (not explicitly specified).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing OPC files and model-based corrections, performing analysis and validation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturability and yield.

  • Develop, qualify, maintain, and optimize OPC technology files, recipes, and computational lithography solutions for advanced processes.
  • Develop and evaluate OPC strategies and model-based corrections to improve pattern fidelity and process-window performance.
  • Perform root-cause analysis of printing and yield-limiting hotspots using simulation, wafer data, and computational lithography tools.
  • Validate and release OPC solutions via simulation-to-wafer correlation, process-window assessment, and quality/change-control methods.
  • Build automated analysis, verification, and data-processing workflows to improve OPC development efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Collaborate with design rule, lithography, etch, metrology, modeling, mask, and infrastructure teams to implement computational patterning solutions.
  • Participate in cross-functional technology development projects and communicate technical results, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and support other assignments as needed.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Practical experience with OPC, computational lithography, semiconductor lithography, or related patterning fields.
  • Working knowledge of optical proximity effects, process-window behavior, pattern fidelity, and semiconductor manufacturing fundamentals.
  • Experience with lithography simulation, hotspot analysis, and correlation of simulation to wafer behavior.
  • Ability to analyze simulation and wafer data, perform structured root-cause analysis, and translate findings into computational or process improvements.
  • Scripting or programming experience for automation and data analysis (Python, Perl, Tcl, shell scripting, or equivalent).
  • Up to 10% travel.
  • Fluency in English, written and verbal.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with production OPC technology files, model-based OPC, mask data preparation, large-scale compute environments, and cross-domain understanding of lithography/etch/design rules/metrology interactions.
  • Nice-to-have: project management, strong written/verbal communication, and planning/organizational skills.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field. Preferred: Master’s degree or PhD in the same or similar fields.
