PMIC Systems and Validation Engineer, Staff
QualcommJob Title
PMIC Systems and Validation Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Work on system architecture, post-silicon functional validation, and chipset integration for Power Management IC (PMIC) solutions used in mobile and consumer SoCs. The role partners with analog/digital design, firmware, software, characterization and customer engineering teams to define system-level specifications and validate hardware/firmware behavior.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 8+ years of relevant hardware/systems experience in PMIC, power electronics, ASIC or related electronic product development.
Responsibilities
Own and execute system-definition, validation planning, and post-silicon debugging for PMIC subsystems and multi-PMIC solutions.
- Define top-level PMIC-System specifications (HW/FW/SW partitioning, register interfaces, protocols, sequencing).
- Create and execute functional validation plans (manual and automated tests) and analyze HW measurements and SW logs.
- Perform HW/SW debugging, signal measurements, and failure analysis; produce validation reports.
- Assess risks in development and validation plans and propose mitigation strategies.
- Integrate PMIC solutions with SoC and platform-level subsystems; support customer debug and issue triage.
- Coordinate with product management, design, characterization, software and customer-engagement teams worldwide.
Requirements
Must-have technical and professional skills; preferred items listed separately.
- 8+ years of experience in hardware systems, post-silicon validation, or related electronic product development.
- Hands-on post-silicon validation experience: bench measurements and/or firmware/log-based verification.
- Strong hardware debug skills for power subsystems (DC-DC/SMPS, LDOs) and ability to read HW schematics and PCB interconnections.
- Experience with lab instruments (oscilloscopes, power supplies, JTAG debuggers) and automating HW test cases.
- Familiarity with PMIC and power-management fundamentals, microcontroller architecture, and HW–SW interactions.
- Ability to define high-level strategies and decompose them into executable validation plans and tasks.
- Good analytical and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-have:
- Programming or scripting experience (Python, Perl, C#, LabVIEW, etc.) and basic OOP understanding.
- Experience leading white-box validation efforts and exposure to assembly-language programming for microcontrollers.
- Familiarity with tools like JIRA and Git and prior customer-facing debugging experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related engineering field is required. Alternatives listed in the source: Master’s degree (preferred, especially with VLSI/Microelectronics or Power Management specialization) or PhD are accepted with reduced experience thresholds. The posting specifies degree + experience options: Bachelor’s +4 years, Master’s +3 years, PhD +2 years.
