PMIC Analog Design Lead
Texas InstrumentsJob Title
PMIC Analog Design Lead
Role Summary
Lead selection and design of switching converter architectures (buck, boost, buck-boost, inverting, SIMO) and associated PMIC blocks to meet aggressive targets for power density, efficiency, transient performance, and low quiescent current for handheld electronic devices. Drive technical execution across schematic, simulation, layout review, silicon bring-up, and characterization while coordinating cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior - 7+ years of analog/mixed-signal IC design experience with a focus on power management.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities:
- Define PMIC system architecture and translate customer requirements into silicon specifications.
- Choose and develop switching converter topologies to meet efficiency, transient, and IQ targets.
- Own technical delivery across the full IC design flow: schematic, simulation, layout review, post-layout verification, silicon bring-up, and characterization.
- Serve as technical owner for one or more converter blocks within multi-block PMIC products.
- Lead cross-functional design reviews and drive technical closure with systems and applications teams.
- Resolve integration challenges related to multi-rail PMICs, sequencing, and protection features.
- Mentor and support junior engineers on design methodology, tools, and best practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 7+ years of analog/mixed-signal IC design experience with deep expertise in power management.
- Hands-on silicon experience designing switching converters (buck, boost, SIMO, buck-boost, inverting) and LDOs/charge pumps.
- Expertise in converter control architectures and compensation (adaptive on-time, constant on/off time, peak/valley/average current-mode control).
- Transistor-level design experience for integrated power FETs, gate drivers, oscillators, bandgap/bias circuits, and error amplifiers.
- High-efficiency techniques: adaptive dead-time, DVS, multi-phase balancing, light-load optimization, and IDDQ minimization at high switching frequencies.
- Experience with multi-rail PMIC integration: power sequencing, UVLO, OCP, OTP, and digital interfaces (I2C, SPI, MIPI I3C).
- Proficiency with standard Power IC design flows (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre); working knowledge of Simplis and AMS co-simulation.
- Worst-case corner analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, and post-layout PEX sign-off experience.
- Physical layout review skills: power routing, grounding, signal integrity, thermal management, and die-area optimization.
- Knowledge of BCD and/or advanced CMOS process trade-offs for high-performance power IC design and demonstrated ability to own technical decisions.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required; Master’s or PhD is preferred. Fields referenced include Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines.
