Job Title

Platform Hardware Design Engineer

Role Summary

Drive end-to-end development of platform hardware: translate system-level requirements into circuit and component specifications, oversee schematic capture and PCB layout, and lead board bring-up, debugging, and customer delivery. Work on multidisciplinary platform projects with architects, verification engineers, manufacturing, and program managers.

Experience Level

Senior - requires multiple years of hands-on experience designing and bringing up PCB-based platforms, with demonstrated ability to resolve system-level bring-up issues and lead technical activities.

Responsibilities

Deliver platform hardware from specification through delivery and support.

  • Translate platform-level requirements into circuit- and component-level specifications.
  • Perform schematic capture, component definition, and oversee PCB layout and routing rules to board tapeout.
  • Select components with consideration for BOM cost, availability, and design tradeoffs.
  • Plan and lead board bring-up, power-on, debug, and root-cause resolution activities.
  • Collaborate with architects, hardware verification, validation, manufacturing, and customers to resolve issues and incorporate feedback.
  • Design and validate mixed-signal, analog, and digital interfaces and power solutions for platform compatibility.
  • Define technical platform processes, input/output parameters, and compatibility requirements with firmware and software.
  • Produce technical documentation and contribute to platform validation strategies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional traits.

Must-have:

  • Proven PCB design and layout experience, including component specification and routing rules.
  • Hands-on hardware debugging and board bring-up experience; knowledge of electrical interfaces and power-on fundamentals.
  • Mixed-signal and analog fundamentals and experience with CMOS technologies and digital board design.
  • Ability to analyze system-level design trade-offs and optimize for compatibility, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Experience with schematic capture, component placement considerations, and working through board tapeout constraints.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and multitasking skills for cross-functional project work and coordinated bring-up activities.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with board assembly manufacturing flow and power analysis techniques.
  • Experience producing formal technical documentation and leading platform validation and development activities.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree in a relevant field with 5+ years; OR PhD in a relevant field with 3+ years. The posting allows equivalent experience and notes requirements may be met through industry experience, internships, coursework, or research.
