Platform Emulation Engineer
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Platform Emulation Engineer
Role Summary
Join AMD's Data Center GPU organization to develop and operate emulation infrastructure that enables pre-silicon validation for HPC and ML products. The role focuses on firmware and OS bring-up on emulators, executing benchmarks and workloads, collecting and analyzing emulation data, and driving cross-team debug to improve silicon quality and delivery timelines.
Experience Level
Senior-level β requires 7+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop, maintain and run emulation infrastructure on platforms such as Veloce, Zebu, and Palladium.
- Bring up and debug CPU/GPU firmware and OS on emulators; instrument firmware to support failure analysis.
- Develop, modify and run functional and stress tests to find silicon bugs in emulation.
- Validate firmware features (RAS, resets, power management, secure boot, virtualization) and multi-socket configurations in emulation.
- Bring up the full graphics/software stack and ML/AI applications in emulation; run multi-socket workloads and collect results for debug and tuning.
- Collect, parse and analyze emulation and simulation data to support performance and functional debug.
- Coordinate cross-team triage with design, verification, firmware, software and emulation teams and provide debug leadership.
- Research and enable new tools and automation to improve emulation throughput and debug efficiency; attend and present status in meetings.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills:
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with emulation platforms (Veloce, Zebu, Palladium) including compilation, debug and throughput tuning.
- Must-have: Strong HW/SW co-debug skills in hybrid emulation environments; ability to trace code across multiple domains and use waveform/tracing tools for root-cause analysis.
- Must-have: Knowledge of computer hardware and software architecture (graphics cards, CPUs/APUs, memory, bus logic, boot flow, device drivers, OS) and working knowledge of Linux/Unix with shell scripting.
- Must-have: Programming skills in C/C++ and Python; familiarity with assembly (ARM & x86) useful.
- Nice-to-have: Understanding of Verilog/VHDL design; SystemVerilog, DPI, UVM verification environments; simulation models.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with HPC and parallel programming (OpenMP, OpenMPI), platform management components (BMC, SMC), secure platform concepts (Root of Trust, FW signing) and building/installing software on Linux.
- Familiarity with bug-tracking tools (e.g., Jira) and strong oral and written communication skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering. The role expects 7+ years of relevant experience; equivalent practical experience in related technical fields may be considered.
