Physical Layer Architecture Engineer
Role Summary
Design and lead the physical-layer architecture for high-speed networking ASICs used in datacenter infrastructure. The role sits on the networking architecture team and combines hardware-focused PHY definition with coordination of firmware/software and cross-functional teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level β requires 3+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Define and drive the physical-layer features and architecture for NVIDIA networking devices; coordinate across design, firmware, system, backend and QA teams.
- Translate customer requirements into detailed technical specifications for hardware, embedded software and high-level design.
- Define PHY implementations of physical-layer standards for ASIC devices.
- Supervise and review implementations: low-level design, QA test plans, and resolve design obstacles.
- Participate in standards-body activities and contribute to next-generation protocol definitions.
- Define features to ensure interoperability across generations of communication protocols.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams to converge on key design decisions.
- Act as a focal point for physical-layer networking communication within the company.

Must-have
- 3+ years experience in physical-layer communication, system-level signal integrity, or high-speed communication protocols.
- Background in embedded software.
- Experience with networking and wireline physical-layer protocols (examples: IEEE 802.3, InfiniBand, PCIe, USB).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills; technically hands-on.
Nice-to-have
- Experience participating in standards bodies or protocol definition activities.
- Experience leading cross-group projects involving design, firmware and QA.
Education Requirements
BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering (EE).
