Physical Design Senior Staff Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Physical Design Senior Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Lead physical design (PNR) implementation for Qualcomm SoCs, owning floorplanning, placement, clock-tree synthesis, post-route optimization and signoff activities. Work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, low-power silicon.
Experience Level
Senior level. The posting indicates this role expects extensive industry experience (senior/lead responsibilities and long-term ownership of PNR flows).
Responsibilities
The role requires complete ownership of place-and-route implementation and signoff for advanced-node SoC designs.
- Lead floorplanning, placement, CTS and post-route optimization for SoC blocks and full-chip designs.
- Perform static timing analysis (STA) and power signoff activities; close timing and power issues.
- Execute signoff flows including power analysis, functional verification (FV), and low-power verification.
- Develop and maintain PNR scripts/tools; use Unix/Linux environments for automation.
- Collaborate with design, verification, and power teams to resolve integration and signoff issues.
- Drive quality, performance and manufacturability targets for chip tapeout.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.
- Extensive hands-on experience with PNR flows, including floorplanning, placement, CTS and post-route optimization.
- Signoff expertise: STA, power analysis, and low-power verification methodologies.
- Strong Unix/Linux proficiency and scripting experience (Perl, TCL or equivalent) for flow automation.
- Proven problem-solving skills and ability to take full ownership of implementation and signoff tasks.
- Experience working on advanced technology nodes and complex SoC integration projects.
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of ASIC design/verification/validation/integration experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience; OR PhD in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience. (Posting also references extensive industry experience in physical design.)
