Physical Design Power Optimization and Modeling Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Networking Silicon Power engineering team to drive power optimization and modeling across block and top-level physical design for high-speed communication chips. Work on RTL-to-GDS flows to reduce power, meet timing, and address power/noise challenges in a production ASIC environment.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early-career. Target candidates with approximately 1+ years of relevant physical-design or back-end power optimization experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on physical-design power work across the chip delivery flow.

  • Optimize power at block and top-level (floorplanning, placement, routing, power-grid design).
  • Support synthesis, clock and power distribution, timing closure, and power/noise fixes.
  • Perform power estimation and build power models used for design decisions.
  • Collaborate with RTL, STA, verification, and FE teams to meet power, performance, and area targets.
  • Apply tooling and automation to accelerate power analysis and fixes.

Requirements

Must-have skills and relevant experience; advantages listed as preferred.

  • Minimum ~1 year of hands-on experience in physical design or back-end power optimization.
  • Familiarity with physical-design EDA tools (examples: Synopsys, Cadence).
  • Ability to use modern AI tools to accelerate engineering workflows and problem-solving.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Nice to have: knowledge of P&R flows, STA, physical verification, or front-end design experience.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
