Job Title

Physical Design Power Methodology Senior Staff Engineer

Role Summary

Member of AMD's central physical design methodology team responsible for defining and delivering power methodologies for high-performance CPU, GPU, and SoC designs. The role drives power-optimization recipes across synthesis, placement & routing, library, and flow components and collaborates across design teams and divisions.

Experience Level

Senior-level (Staff/Principal engineering level). No specific years-of-experience requirement stated.

Responsibilities

Accountabilities include defining methodologies, implementing power-analysis flows, and partnering with architecture and implementation teams to improve performance per watt.

  • Drive IP physical implementation recipes from synthesis through routing to optimize performance-per-watt.
  • Collaborate with RTL architects and PD teams to identify and resolve power-related bottlenecks.
  • Define and maintain budgeting, measurement, analysis, and tracking processes for power consumption.
  • Establish global methodologies and best-known implementation recipes across libraries, synthesis, and P&R flows.
  • Create and document power sign-off methodologies and verification guidelines.
  • Work across multiple divisions to deploy methodology changes and measure impact on designs.

Requirements

Key qualifications and skills. Must-have items first, followed by desirable skills.

  • Must-have: Proven experience in physical-design power methodology and driving implementation recipes for high-performance ASIC/SoC designs.
  • Must-have: Experience with power budgeting, measurement, analysis, and tracking across the design flow.
  • Must-have: Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work cross-functionally with architecture and implementation teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with power-analysis tools such as PrimePower, PowerArtist, or similar RTL power tools.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with high-performance clocking and STA methodologies, including OCV and statistical margining techniques.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with CPU and/or GPU microarchitecture and sub-micron process design considerations.
  • Nice-to-have: Proficiency in scripting (Perl, Tcl, Python) and data analysis for methodology automation and interpretation of power data.

Education Requirements

Desirable: MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering. The posting also states mastery of logic, circuit design, and CAD tools for high-performance design is expected. (No explicit alternative "equivalent experience" language provided.)
