Physical Design Engineer, Timing
Role Summary
Contribute to static timing analysis (STA) and timing closure for multi‑million‑gate designs on advanced process nodes. Work within the physical design team and with Design, DFT, and verification teams to achieve final signoff and tapeout.
This is a hybrid role based in Austin, TX; Fort Collins, CO; or Santa Clara, CA.
Experience Level
Senior-level - typically 8+ years of relevant STA and timing-closure experience (mid- to senior-level role).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include timing convergence, analysis, and delivery through tapeout.
- Drive timing convergence across blocks, partitions, and top-level designs; generate and validate timing models and publish results.
- Analyze timing violations, develop and propagate fixes (ECOs), and debug timing-flow issues.
- Create and maintain SDC constraints and bottom-up constraint strategies; validate constraints across hierarchy and corners.
- Collaborate with Design, DFT, and layout teams on closure requirements, methodology updates, and signoff criteria.
- Support clock-tree synthesis (CTS), derates/uncertainties, guardbanding, CDC/RDC analysis, and worst-case corner analysis through signoff.
- Develop automation and flows using scripting to improve implementation and signoff workflows.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and other requirements.
- 8+ years of experience in STA, timing closure, and advanced-node design implementation.
- Deep knowledge of timing flows, constraints, clocking, CDC/RDC, derates, uncertainties, guardbanding, and final signoff.
- Proven ability to write and debug SDC constraints, produce ECOs, and develop closure strategies.
- Proficiency with scripting for automation and flow development (Python, Perl, Tcl).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to drive results across distributed teams.
- Employment contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology; ability to obtain required export authorization may be required.
- Nice-to-have: SPICE, PNR, placement, CTS, routing, post-route optimization, DFT experience, or exposure to AI-based automation.
