Physical Design Engineer - Staff
Role Summary
Senior physical design engineer in the ASIC Physical Design team based in Hyderabad, India. Owns physical implementation aspects of complex SoC/ASIC projects and coordinates with RTL, timing, verification and tapeout teams to deliver manufacturable designs.
Experience Level
Senior / Staff level — typically 7+ years of relevant ASIC physical design experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include leading and executing physical implementation tasks and mentoring engineers.
- Drive floorplanning, placement, clock-tree synthesis, routing and ECOs to meet timing, power and area targets.
- Perform timing closure and signoff preparation; collaborate with STA and timing teams.
- Work with physical verification (DRC/LVS/ERC) teams to resolve issues and enable clean tapeout.
- Develop and maintain P&R flows, scripts and automation to improve turnaround and quality.
- Coordinate cross-functional integration with RTL, synthesis, DFT and ECO teams.
- Provide technical leadership, code reviews, and mentorship for junior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; a short list of preferred additions follows.
- Proven experience in ASIC/SoC physical design (placement, CTS, routing, ECO).
- Strong timing closure and signoff experience with industry STA methodologies.
- Experience with P&R flows, scripting (Tcl/Python/Perl) and UNIX/Linux environments.
- Knowledge of standard-cell libraries, timing constraints and power-reduction techniques.
- Good communication skills and experience coordinating multi-team tapeout activities.
- Nice-to-have: experience with advanced process nodes, DFT, low-power/UPF flows, or leading project teams.
