Job Title
Physical Design Engineer — Foundry Services
Role Summary
Implement physical designs for Si interposers and bridge designs, converting floorplans and RTL into manufacturing-ready databases. Work within Intel Foundry to ensure designs meet performance, power, reliability, and area targets for tape-in/tapeout.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to physical-design methodology and automation to support scalable production flows.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically 3–7 years of relevant industry experience. The posting specifies 4+ years with a Bachelor’s or 3+ years with a Master’s.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include physical implementation, verification, analysis, and methodology improvements for advanced packaging and interposer designs.
- Perform physical design implementation from floorplanning through signoff to produce manufacturing-ready databases for Si interposers and bridges.
- Execute place-and-route, floor planning, routing, and physical-design verification flows.
- Run signal integrity, power analysis, and reliability analyses and recommend fixes for violations.
- Perform verification and signoff tasks: formal equivalence, reliability verification, layout verification, electrical rule checking, and structural design checking.
- Optimize designs for signal integrity, power, reliability, density, and area.
- Design and manage multiple power domains and static/dynamic power integrity solutions; generate required reports.
- Use industry-standard EDA tools for placement, routing, and analysis.
- Participate in development and automation of physical-design methodologies and flows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate physical design across projects.
Requirements
Required and preferred technical and security prerequisites for the role.
Must-have:
- US Citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
- Experience with EDA tools for custom physical design and auto place-and-route (examples: Virtuoso, Innovus, ICC/ICC2/Fusion, icValidator, Calibre, UPF, RTL, SPICE, OASIS, ODB++).
- Hands-on physical-design experience including at least two of: floor planning, route optimization/shielding, signal-integrity analysis, power-delivery design/analysis for multi-power domains, reliability verification.
- Full-chip physical-design completion and verification experience for tape-in/tapeout.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience optimizing designs specifically for signal integrity and power integrity at advanced nodes.
- Experience in chip-level design and tape-in assembly for advanced technology nodes.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (with 4+ years' experience) or Master's degree in a related field (with 3+ years' experience). The posting specifies degree plus years of experience as the qualification; no alternative "equivalent experience" language was provided.
