Job Title
Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Data Center Solutions Group to perform physical IC design for PCIe switch and enterprise storage products. The role focuses on RTL-to-silicon physical implementation, timing closure, verification, and floorplanning for high-performance datacenter-class chips.
This position is based at the Colorado Springs site and requires on-site presence for all work activities.
Experience Level
Senior — requires substantial industry experience. The posting specifies 12+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Key deliverables and day-to-day activities include:
- Execute full physical design flow: RTL to tape-out (synthesis, place & route, physical verification).
- Set up and synthesize RTL for implementation.
- Perform static timing analysis and timing closure using top-level STA strategies.
- Conduct EM/IR analysis and resolve power delivery issues.
- Implement clock tree synthesis, including custom clock trees, insertion reduction, and skew balancing.
- Lead floorplanning and layout tasks, with emphasis on top-level floorplanning.
- Develop and improve physical design flows and methodologies.
- Collaborate closely with RTL designers and cross-functional IC design teams.
- Work on-site at the Colorado Springs campus (no remote work allowed).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong scripting skills (TCL and/or Perl).
- Proficiency with industry EDA tools for synthesis, P&R, STA, and physical verification.
- Proven experience across the full physical design cycle (RTL to tape-out).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work on-site at the Colorado Springs facility.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with custom clock tree design and advanced floorplanning techniques.
