Physical Design Jobs, Level - Entry or Early Career

Job Title

Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Implement place-and-route (PNR) flows and deliver physical design for Qualcomm SoCs. Responsible for floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and signoff preparation on advanced process nodes.

Own PNR implementation and signoff readiness, collaborating with cross-functional hardware and verification teams to meet timing, power, and performance targets.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early career - requires approximately 2+ years of relevant hardware engineering or PNR experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • End-to-end PNR implementation: floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, and post-route fixes.
  • Prepare and execute signoff flows including static timing analysis (STA) and power analysis.
  • Optimize placement/CTS for timing closure and power integrity (LEC/CLP/PDN awareness).
  • Develop and maintain automation and scripts for flows (Unix/Linux, Perl/TCL).
  • Debug PNR and signoff issues and coordinate with cross-functional teams for design closure.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with PNR flow on advanced process nodes (e.g., 4nm/5nm/7nm/10nm).
  • Strong knowledge of placement, CTS, optimization, and timing closure techniques.
  • Signoff experience with STA and power analysis; familiarity with signoff deliverables.
  • Proficiency with Unix/Linux and scripting (Perl, TCL) to automate flows.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with low-power verification, formal verification support, or specific signoff tools and flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech/BS) in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field.
