Job Title

Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Perform RTL-to-GDS physical design implementation for custom IP and SoC projects, delivering manufacturable design databases optimized for power, performance, and area. Work on implementation, verification/signoff, and flow automation within a central engineering group supporting product enablement and custom ASIC efforts.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience guidance: BS +3 years, MS +2 years, or PhD with no prior experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include full-chip and IP physical implementation, verification, and methodology improvement.

  • Implement physical design flows from RTL to GDS: synthesis, floorplanning, place-and-route, clock tree synthesis, and signoff.
  • Perform static timing analysis, power integrity analysis, layout verification, and formal equivalence checks for signoff.
  • Analyze and resolve timing, reliability, and design-structure violations.
  • Optimize designs for power, frequency, and area using industry-standard EDA tools.
  • Develop and refine physical-design methodologies and flow automation to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address design challenges and deliver robust solutions.

Requirements

Key qualifications and skills required and preferred for the role.

  • Must-have: Hands-on RTL-to-GDS implementation experience including synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with industry-standard EDA tools for physical design (examples: Cadence, Mentor Graphics).
  • Must-have: Experience with static timing analysis, floorplanning, and power integrity analysis.
  • Must-have: Knowledge of low-power design techniques and methodologies.
  • Must-have: Advanced English communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Must-have: Unrestricted, permanent right to work in Mexico (no visa sponsorship provided).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience driving continuous improvement in design methodologies and automation.
  • Nice-to-have: Demonstrated attention to execution and implementation detail in complex designs.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (typically with 3+ years' experience); OR Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (typically with 2+ years' experience); OR PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (may be considered with no prior experience). No other certifications were specified.
