Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

As a Physical Design Engineer on the Networking Silicon engineering team, you will perform RTL-to-GDS physical implementation of chip blocks targeting efficient power, area, and performance. The role focuses on timing closure, congestion resolution, power and noise analysis, and physical verification within a collaborative engineering team.

Experience Level

Mid-level (typical 3–7 years of relevant physical design and RTL-to-GDS experience).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Implement physical builds from RTL to GDS: synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and physical verification.
  • Perform power and clock distribution, power and noise analysis, and congestion/timing resolution.
  • Develop and improve physical-design flows and automation.
  • Collaborate with logic, verification, and integration teams to ensure correct and efficient block integration.
  • Troubleshoot complex physical implementation issues and propose corrective actions.

Requirements

Must-have experience and skills:

  • Hands-on experience in physical build engineering and RTL-to-GDS flows.
  • Strong understanding of place-and-route, timing analysis, congestion management, and physical verification methodologies.
  • Experience analyzing power, clocking, and noise issues in silicon designs.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team and communicate technical trade-offs.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
