Job Title

AI/ML Driven ASIC Design and Implementation Automation Engineer

Role Summary

Work in the Advanced Chip Engineering (ACE) organization to research and prototype AI/ML techniques applied to VLSI CAD and ASIC implementation flows. The role focuses on improving power, performance, area, and quality for SoC and IP development by creating automation and pilots on real designs for automotive processors and advanced microcontrollers.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” expects approximately 5+ years of relevant industry experience in AI/ML and software development applied to optimization problems.

Responsibilities

Contribute to methodology and tool development to integrate AI/ML into ASIC design and implementation workflows.

  • Research and evaluate state-of-the-art AI/ML methods (GenAI, reinforcement learning, GNNs, CNNs) for VLSI CAD problems.
  • Develop prototypes and experiments to validate approaches on real IP and SoC designs.
  • Integrate successful prototypes into automation flows and pilot implementations.
  • Collaborate with architecture, IP, design, verification, and implementation teams across sites.
  • Engage with academic and industry AI/ML experts to transfer and adapt research methods.
  • Analyze results, tune models/algorithms for PPA and QoR improvements, and document outcomes.
  • Coordinate cross-functional initiatives to drive digital transformation of design flows.

Requirements

Key technical skills and practical experience required for day-to-day work.

  • Proven hands-on expertise in Python and C++ for tool and prototype development.
  • 5+ years applying AI/ML techniques (LLMs, CNN, RNN, GraphNN) to real-world optimization problems.
  • Strong software engineering skills: data structures, algorithms, debugging, and optimization.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux environments and revision control systems (Git, BitBucket).
  • Ability to work on actual ASIC designs and integrate automation into implementation flows.
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving and clear verbal/written communication skills.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline (as stated). Strong background in software development is expected.
