Physical Design Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Work on Synopsys' Applications Engineering team in Hyderabad supporting customers on RTL-to-GDSII flows. The role focuses on debugging physical implementation issues, deploying product releases, scripting to reproduce and automate flows, and collaborating with R&D to drive fixes.
The position requires direct customer interaction-troubleshooting onsite or remotely, delivering technical guidance, and improving customer design outcomes and tool adoption.
Experience Level
Entry-level - 0β2 years of hands-on industry experience (internships, projects, or coursework count).
Responsibilities
Key duties include supporting customer implementations, reproducing issues, and communicating findings to R&D and customers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve physical design issues across RTL-to-GDS flows, including place-and-route, timing closure, and signoff.
- Deploy product releases and train customer teams on features, methodologies, and best practices.
- Escalate, validate, and help reproduce bugs with R&D; contribute field-driven feedback to the technical roadmap.
- Create and maintain scripts (Tcl, Perl, Unix shell) to automate workflows, reproduce problems, and improve productivity.
- Represent the company on customer calls and design reviews; explain root causes and remediation clearly to customer teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- 0β2 years practical experience with physical design and RTL-to-GDS flows (internships and projects included).
- Experience diagnosing and resolving place-and-route implementation problems and timing closure challenges.
- Familiarity with digital circuits, CMOS fundamentals, and ASIC design methodology.
- Proficiency scripting in Tcl, Perl, or Unix shell to automate tasks and reproduce issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable working directly with customers in technical discussions.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Computer Engineering. Equivalent practical experience such as relevant internships, industrial projects, or coursework is accepted.
