Photonics System Engineer
Role Summary
System Engineer responsible for defining photonics products and platforms by translating customer and market requirements into technical specifications and product definitions. Works with marketing, applications, and design teams to ensure products meet market needs and are manufacturable at acceptable cost.
Primary focus on optical engines for datacom applications, standards engagement, and influencing optical-engine roadmap and EIC-to-PIC interfaces.
Experience Level
Senior β requires 5+ years industry experience in high-volume manufacturing of optical engines (EIC, PIC), preferably in datacom applications.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include market and standards engagement, defining product requirements, and influencing roadmap and implementation across disciplines.
- Track optical market trends and customer requirements; engage customers and attend industry events with emphasis on datacom applications.
- Represent the company in standards bodies and translate industry directions into internal guidance (e.g., OIF, IEEE, MSA/CPX groups).
- Define internal product requirements and test conditions; maintain spec compliance matrices.
- Drive multidisciplinary alignment (design, qualification/reliability, applications) to ensure product definitions are implementable and manufacturable.
- Influence optical engine roadmap, including EIC-to-PIC interface considerations (2.5D/3D packaging) and CPO technical requirements.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 5+ years industry experience in high-volume manufacturing of optical engines (EIC, PIC), preferably for datacom.
- Proven ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams; strong organizational skills.
- Analytical problem-solving for complex design and manufacturing challenges.
- Experience promoting/marketing ICs and enabling design wins by providing system-level solutions.
- Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
Preferred (nice-to-have):
- Experience with silicon photonics and high-speed optical device fabrication.
- Hands-on optical-bench lab skills for customer support and debugging.
- Ability to ramp quickly on new systems/processes, take initiative, and meet project deadlines.
Education Requirements
Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optoelectronics, or a related technical field (as stated in the posting).
