NVIDIAJob Title
PhD Research Intern, Hardware and Systems Architecture - 2027
Role Summary
Conduct research in hardware and systems architecture to advance GPU systems and related areas (deep learning, humanoid robotics, databases, and general computing). Produce prototypes, publications, and long‑term technology vision that inform future products.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for PhD candidates. Typically requires at least one year of university or industrial research experience in computer architecture or computer systems.
Responsibilities
Primary research and prototyping responsibilities include:
- Conduct original research on algorithms, hardware, and system software across deep learning, robotics, databases, and general computing.
- Invent and prototype new techniques, methodologies, processes, and devices; deliver prototypes, patents, publications, and product directions.
- Develop methods for research evaluation, including simulation, modeling, benchmarking, and agent-driven techniques.
- Formulate technology vision and research roadmaps with a 5–10 year horizon.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and core skills:
- At least one year of university or industrial research experience in computer architecture or computer systems (operating systems, distributed systems, compilers, or AI/ML systems).
- Strong programming ability in C, C++ and Python.
- Experience designing and evaluating research ideas via prototyping, simulation, modeling, or experimentation.
- Ability to communicate research ideas, methods, and results clearly in written and oral form.
- Eagerness to learn and apply AI tools for software development and system design.
Nice-to-have:
- Chip/system-level architecture experience (specialized accelerators, agentic techniques for architecture).
- Systems for AI/ML: infrastructure for LLM training/inference, agent systems, state management, or systems for humanoid robotics.
- AI/systems co-design experience.
- Research contributions or publications submitted to architecture and systems conferences (ISCA, ASPLOS, MICRO, HPCA, SOSP, MLSys, NSDI, OSDI).
- Publications or manuscripts in preparation are a plus.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
