Ph.D. Research Hardware Intern (2027)

Role Summary

Summer internship on NVIDIA's hardware research teams focused on circuit and VLSI design, ASIC development, and EDA methodologies. Interns perform hands-on research, collaborate with engineers and external researchers, and help transition research prototypes into products.

Experience Level

Internship level for Ph.D. students. Intended for candidates actively enrolled in a Ph.D. program.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities during the internship include:

  • Design and implement novel circuit and VLSI concepts, including ASIC development and advanced EDA methods.
  • Collaborate with team members, other internal teams, and external researchers.
  • Translate research into prototypes, patents, publications, or product features.
  • Deliver experimental results, proofs-of-concept, or demonstrable design artifacts.

Requirements

Key skills and experience expected for successful applicants.

  • Familiarity with programming and hardware description languages: Python, C/C++, Perl, MATLAB, CUDA, Verilog, SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with CAD/EDA tools and tool flows (examples: Cadence, Synopsys, HFSS) and ML frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Strong research record demonstrated by publications and/or patents.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Relevant research experience in at least one listed area (see Education Requirements for specifics).

Education Requirements

Must be actively enrolled in a Ph.D. program (degree: Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field for the full duration of the internship. Anticipated graduation month and year must be clearly indicated on the resume or CV.
