PDK Developer and Support Engineer
Role Summary
Work on the CAD team to develop and maintain Process Design Kits (PDKs), automation utilities, and flows used across Microchip for custom IC design. The role combines hands-on PDK engineering, tool automation, user support, training, and documentation.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires 5+ years of relevant experience in analog or mixed-signal IC design.
Responsibilities
Provide PDK and CAD-tool support, develop automation, and improve methodology and productivity across design centers.
- Develop and maintain automation utilities using Cadence SKILL and Linux scripting languages.
- Support Process Design Kits (PDKs) and Cadence design-capture and layout tools for internal design centers and contractors.
- Develop and maintain in-house PDKs and adapt external foundry PDKs for integration with company flows.
- Create scripts to ensure compatibility and integration of simulation, physical verification, and parasitic extraction collateral within the PDK.
- Provide user training (in-person and online) and maintain technical web documentation.
- Contribute to methodology development: flow automation, environment configuration, and design data management.
- Collaborate closely with design teams, technology development teams, and other CAD groups.
- Travel 0–25% as required.
Requirements
Core qualifications and technical skills required; a final bullet notes a preferred skill.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in analog or mixed-signal IC design, including schematic, layout, and physical verification.
- Hands-on experience with PDK development, maintenance, and support.
- Experience automating Cadence IC tools and scripting or programming (Python, SKILL, Bash, Perl, Tcl/Tk, or similar).
- Familiarity with EDA tools used in IC design.
- Excellent technical communication skills in English.
- Ability to balance customer support requests with development tasks.
- Nice-to-have: experience with Design Data Management software.
