Packaging Engineer

Role Summary

As a Packaging Engineer at Analog Devices' San Jose site, you will lead IC package and power-module development, implement package-level design automation, and manage manufacturing partners to deliver reliable, manufacturable packages for analog products.

The role requires collaboration with reliability, supply chain, and business teams and involves project planning and execution for new and existing products.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Graduate (Graduate Job). Suitable for early-career engineers; internship or semiconductor industry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include package and module design, design automation, vendor coordination, and cross-functional project delivery.

  • Design and optimize IC packages across analog product platforms and assembly/bumping processes.
  • Design and optimize power modules for performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain package-, module-, and system-level design automation tools and workflows.
  • Manage relationships and development activities with overseas assembly subcontractors / OSATs (late-afternoon/early-evening calls expected).
  • Collaborate with internal reliability, business units, and supply chain teams to support package engineering needs.
  • Plan and drive package development projects from concept through release.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Practical experience in analog IC package and module design, optimization, and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of selecting package bill of materials and material properties (mechanical, thermal, electrical).
  • CAD skills for creating package design models and drawings.
  • Proficiency in Python; experience with machine learning and image analysis.
  • Experience with data analysis and applying results to engineering decisions.
  • Ability to manage OSATs/assembly subcontractors and work effectively with cross-functional teams; willingness to take late-afternoon/evening calls.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
  • Nice-to-have: package- and system-level thermal, mechanical, electrical, or magnetic simulation experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree required in Materials Science and Engineering, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science. Master’s degree preferred. Internship experience in the semiconductor industry is preferred.
