Field Applications Engineer (FAE) - MPU and DNPU
Role Summary
Provide technical presales and postsales support for NXP MPU and discrete AI accelerator (DNPU) products to drive design wins with customers in Automotive and Industrial verticals. Work closely with sales, product teams, and partners to design and validate system solutions.
Experience Level
Mid-level β minimum 5 years of relevant engineering or field application experience in the semiconductor or embedded systems domain.
Responsibilities
Primary duties focus on customer-facing technical support, solution design, and enabling sales to secure design-in opportunities.
- Provide timely, high-quality technical support and guidance to assigned customers and partners.
- Drive design wins through proof-of-concept work, solution demonstrations, and system-level proposals.
- Lead system software architecture discussions and ensure broader teams understand software value propositions.
- Coordinate design-in campaigns and liaise with internal product and engineering teams on customer roadmaps and requirements.
- Analyze customer technical objectives and qualify sales opportunities relative to NXP solutions and competitors.
- Deliver technical training to sales staff and distributors on products and ecosystem solutions.
- Gather and synthesize customer and competitive insights to influence product definition and roadmaps.
- Build and maintain relationships with sales teams, business lines, partners, and customers to support revenue goals.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items are flagged separately.

Must-have: Minimum 5 years field application engineering experience in the semiconductor industry and experience with microprocessor-based embedded systems.

Must-have: Proficiency in C and C++ and practical embedded firmware development experience.

Must-have: Strong knowledge of SoC hardware interfaces such as Ethernet, PCIe, MIPI, LPDDR5, USB2.0/3.0, and typical low-speed IO protocols.

Must-have: Familiarity with ARM Cortex-A and Cortex-M architectures (register models) and RTOS concepts.

Must-have: Embedded Linux experience (kernel, user-space, and U-Boot environments).

Must-have: Ability to read and review schematics and provide design recommendations; proven track record of quickly learning new technologies.

Must-have: Experience delivering technical training and supporting sales engineers; comfortable working with revenue/target-driven objectives.

Must-have: Willingness to travel up to 30% within continental US.

Nice-to-have: Hands-on knowledge of graphics and video subsystems and related drivers.

Nice-to-have: Experience with Edge AI deployment and familiarity with TensorFlow Lite or ONNX.

Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical field β or equivalent practical experience.
