Package Layout Engineer - Hardware
NVIDIAJob Title
Package Layout Engineer - Hardware
Role Summary
Design and develop detailed IC substrate layouts for high-speed, high-density ASIC packages. Collaborate with the Technical Package Lead and cross-functional design teams to optimize package pinouts, routing, stack-up, power distribution and to resolve manufacturing, cost, and electrical design issues.
NVIDIA designs GPUs and SoCs used across compute, graphics and AI applications; this role contributes to package implementations for those products.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting identifies the role as Senior and specifies at least 2+ years of PCB layout experience as a baseline.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include detailed package layout and cross-team coordination.
- Collaborate with the layout team to implement high-speed, high-density ASIC packages.
- Create substrate breakout patterns and optimize package pinout based on system-level trade-offs.
- Perform package routing, placement, stack-up and power distribution using Cadence APD, SiP tools or equivalent.
- Propose layout design trade-offs for review and implementation by the Technical Package Lead.
- Conduct feasibility studies to evaluate size, cost, and system performance targets.
- Develop symbols and CAD library databases and improve layout productivity methodologies.
- Coordinate schedules and resolve manufacturing, cost, and electrical-design issues with design and manufacturing teams.
Requirements
Must-have skills and preferred additions.
- Must-have: 2+ years of PCB layout experience on graphics cards, motherboards, line cards or similar designs; strong experience with Cadence APD or SiP and/or PCB layout tools (including Constraint Manager); solid understanding of high-speed signal integrity and package routing/placement/stack-up practices.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with HDI designs; substrate layout experience for wire-bond and flip-chip packages; familiarity with Virtuoso, Calibre, and Valor.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and to balance schedule, cost and technical trade-offs.
Education Requirements
Hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
