Optical Systems Validation Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Optical Systems Validation Engineer
Role Summary
The High-Speed Interfaces Silicon Validation team validates and characterizes ultra-high-speed (100Gbps+) SerDes transceivers for electrical and optical applications in SoC designs. The role works in a lab environment, developing test methods, automation, and fixtures while collaborating with analog, digital, and system engineering teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify required years of experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include laboratory validation, test automation, and cross-functional technical collaboration.
- Validate and characterize SerDes electrical and optical interfaces on silicon devices.
- Develop and execute test methodologies and automation for device configuration, instrumentation control, data collection, and analysis.
- Build and maintain test fixtures and lab setups with attention to signal and power integrity.
- Operate and control lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, BERTs, VNAs, AWGs, VOAs, OSAs, and power meters.
- Analyze test data, identify root causes, and present findings to engineering stakeholders.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, system, and mixed-signal teams to reproduce and resolve silicon issues.
Requirements
Concise list of must-have and nice-to-have skills.
- Must-have: Knowledge of electrical and/or optical test methodologies relevant to high-speed interfaces.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience using lab equipment for SerDes testing (oscilloscopes, BERTs, signal analyzers, VNAs, AWG, VOA, OSA, power meters).
- Must-have: Experience with Python and GIT for test automation and version control.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with statistical data analysis and semiconductor industry analytics tools.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity concepts.
- Nice-to-have: Understanding of SerDes architecture and concepts (PLL, CDR, CTLE, ADC, FFE/DFE, TX drivers, NRZ/PAM4, FEC).
- Nice-to-have: Experience designing hardware fixtures for high-speed test setups.
- Other: Strong communication, attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
