Role Summary

The position is part of Kilby Labs, which focuses on advanced R&D and product development at Texas Instruments. The role involves designing silicon photonics solutions for data communications and working on methodologies, tools, and automation flows for PIC design.

Experience Level

Mid-level, requiring 2+ years of industry experience in silicon photonics.

Responsibilities

The Optical Design Engineer will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Design passive and active PIC components.
  • Translate schematic layouts to .gds files and develop PCells.
  • Build and maintain Process Design Kits and layout automation.
  • Perform DRC and LVS checks for layout verification.
  • Collaborate for design for manufacturability and test.
  • Implement solutions for volume products.
  • Link design rules to manufacturing test data.
  • Oversee designs through to mass production.
  • Engage in R&D for developing next-gen photonics technologies.
  • Present work findings to stakeholders.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 2+ years experience in Si photonics PDKs and automation.
  • Proficiency with design tools like COMSOL and Cadence Virtuoso.
  • Experience with multiple successful tape-outs.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with EPDA flows and automation frameworks.
  • Hands-on silicon photonics test automation experience.
  • Strong communication skills.

Education Requirements

A Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Photonics, or related field is required.
