Job Title

Optic Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for technical leadership of optics-related manufacturing activities including integration, calibration, troubleshooting, process improvement, and production support across the product lifecycle.

Works with R&D, system engineering, production, quality, suppliers, and global teams to ensure stable, efficient, and high-quality optical manufacturing processes.

Mid-level β€” typically requires 3+ years of relevant experience in optical systems, manufacturing engineering, or production support.

Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day optics engineering support for production and integration; lead investigations and process improvements to maintain quality and throughput.

  • Support production lines: troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, machine build, integration, calibration, and acceptance activities.
  • Own optical alignment, focus/tilt adjustment, beam-path optimization, calibration, and optical performance analysis.
  • Define, validate, and improve optical manufacturing processes, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Lead manufacturability and DFM initiatives to improve yield, throughput, and cycle time.
  • Act as primary optics interface across Manufacturing, R&D, System Engineering, and Operations; support engineering changes and product releases.
  • Support supplier qualification, investigate component failures, and work with quality teams to improve component reliability.
  • Train and mentor production and engineering staff on optics-related practices and tools.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, hands-on experience, and personal attributes required for the role. Education requirements are summarized separately below.

  • Minimum 3+ years' experience in optical systems, manufacturing engineering, or production support.
  • Proven experience with optical alignment, calibration, and hands-on troubleshooting of optical assemblies and systems.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary systems combining optics, mechanics, electronics, motion control, and software in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of laser optics, imaging systems, beam-path analysis, optical measurements/metrology, and calibration techniques.
  • Skilled in root-cause analysis, data-driven problem solving, and familiarity with statistical methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret optical and mechanical drawings; familiarity with data analysis tools.
  • Practical, hands-on engineering mindset; strong troubleshooting, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and across global teams.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar engineering tools.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electro-Optic Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.
