Role Summary

Research and development internship focused on applying offline reinforcement learning techniques to electronic design automation (EDA) optimization problems. The intern will work with an engineering/research team in Hsinchu on model development, data preparation, experiment design, and result analysis.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Suitable for students or early-career candidates; prior coursework or project experience in machine learning or reinforcement learning preferred.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities for this internship role include:

• Develop and evaluate offline RL algorithms targeting EDA optimization tasks.
• Implement training, evaluation pipelines and data preprocessing for experiments.
• Work with EDA engineers to frame optimization problems and integrate experimental components.
• Analyze results, document experiments, and communicate findings to the team.
• Perform literature review and prototype improvements under supervision.

Requirements

Key requirements and competencies.

• Must-have: Practical experience or coursework in reinforcement learning and machine learning; strong Python programming skills and familiarity with ML libraries (for example PyTorch or TensorFlow).
• Must-have: Experience with data handling and numerical computing (NumPy, Pandas) and ability to run reproducible experiments.
• Must-have: Able to work onsite in Hsinchu and collaborate with engineering and research teams.
• Nice-to-have: Prior exposure to EDA tools, ASIC/physical-design flows, or C++ coding; experience with offline RL, model-based RL, or simulation-based optimization.
