GlobalFoundriesJob Title
New Product Development Test Engineer Intern (Summer 2027)
Role Summary
Hands-on engineering internship on the New Product Development team focused on automated test solutions for digital, analog, and mixed-signal integrated circuits used in automotive and industrial applications. Work with Product and Test Engineers on test planning, ATE development, silicon bring-up, validation, data analysis, and manufacturing-readiness using Advantest and Teradyne platforms.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for students (must be at least a sophomore at time of application). Intended for candidates transitioning from academic study to industry; no prior years-of-experience required.
Responsibilities
Support test development and validation activities across ATE platforms and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Translate product requirements and datasheets into technical specifications, compliance matrices, DFT requirements, and ATE test plans.
- Assist in designing cost-effective ATE hardware and resource allocation for multisite efficiency and pin multiplexing.
- Develop, bring up, validate, and debug automated test programs for digital, analog, and mixed-signal ICs on Advantest and Teradyne systems.
- Analyze test and characterization data to evaluate design margins, process variation, parametric performance, yield, and test-time improvements.
- Support process-window experiments, silicon/package qualification, and product specification compliance for automotive, industrial, or commercial requirements.
- Collaborate with Design, DFT, Validation, Program Management, Quality, Reliability, Customer Quality, Bench Characterization, Applications, Fab, Assembly, and factory Test teams.
- Contribute to ATE test hardware, socket design, schematics, layout, diagnostic code, and automation under guidance from experienced engineers.
- Document gaps, lessons learned, and best practices; contribute reusable methods to the Standard Test Methods Library (STML).
- Perform work safely and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.
Requirements
Key must-have qualifications and concise list of preferred skills.
- Must-have: English fluency (written and verbal).
- Must-have: Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.
- Nice-to-have: Prior internship or co-op experience; leadership experience in projects or competitions.
- Nice-to-have: Interest in using AI tools and emerging technologies to improve productivity and decision-making.
- Nice-to-have: Project management, planning, and organizational skills; strong written and verbal communication.
- Nice-to-have: Coursework or project experience in semiconductor test, DFT, IC design, electronics, or semiconductor physics.
- Nice-to-have: Programming experience in C, C++, Python, or Perl.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with digital, analog, or mixed-signal circuits, test automation, or laboratory measurement equipment.
Education Requirements
Must be at least a sophomore at time of application and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field at an accredited institution during the internship. Must have at least a 3.0 overall GPA and be in good academic standing.
