New College Grad - Memory System Architect, HBM Generative AI
Role Summary
The HBM Architecture team researches and defines future memory-system architectures for generative AI, ML, and high-performance computing. This role contributes to architecture research, system-level modeling, and evaluation of memory/compute trade-offs to inform product and technology roadmaps.
Experience Level
Entry-level (New college graduate). Position targets candidates with approximately 0β2 years of relevant experience from internships, academic projects, research, or early industry roles.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include research, modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to define memory-system solutions for AI workloads.
- Research and evaluate advanced memory architecture concepts for AI accelerators (GPU, TPU, and emerging platforms).
- Develop and analyze system-level models to assess performance, power, scalability, and efficiency across memory and compute architectures.
- Investigate memory-hierarchy optimizations involving HBM, DRAM, caches, storage, and interconnects.
- Evaluate architectural trade-offs and emerging technologies, including compute-near-memory concepts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into architecture recommendations and long-term technology roadmaps.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed as nice-to-have.
- 0β2 years of relevant experience via research, internships, academic projects, publications, or industry work in computer architecture, memory systems, AI hardware, or HPC.
- Strong understanding of GPU, TPU, AI accelerator, or large-scale computing architectures.
- Knowledge of memory-hierarchy concepts and memory performance optimization (caches, HBM, DRAM, storage systems).
- Experience with performance modeling, architectural simulation, or system analysis methodologies.
- Programming experience in Python and/or C++; familiarity with AI computing frameworks (CUDA, TensorFlow, PyTorch) is expected.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled tools and large language models (e.g., Copilot, Claude) is a plus.
- Nice-to-have: research publications, patents, exposure to compute-near-memory or processing-in-memory concepts, and experience developing architectural roadmaps or technology strategies.
Education Requirements
Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent experience in Computer Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable where specified.
