Network Systems and Solutions Engineer

Role Summary

Join Intel's Networking Solutions Group (NSG) to validate and optimize network subsystems built on high-speed PHY IP, Ethernet, and PCIe technologies for AI and HPC infrastructure. Work with hardware, firmware, and software teams to debug, characterize, and improve physical-layer device and link performance.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early career. Minimum: 1+ years of relevant engineering experience; position is targeted at college graduates.

Responsibilities

Accountabilities include validation, debugging, and cross-team collaboration to ensure reliable high-speed links.

  • Design and run stress and validation tests for firmware-managed Ethernet and PCIe links.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and deliver corrective solutions for link and signal issues.
  • Characterize interconnects (copper, optics) and evaluate interoperability with partner devices (switches).
  • Work with product support to investigate and resolve customer-reported issues.
  • Collaborate with IP design, silicon integration, and electrical validation teams to meet product requirements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are listed separately.

  • Must-have: 1+ years working with serial link disciplines (Ethernet, PCIe, USB or similar).
  • Must-have: Foundational analog and digital electrical knowledge (voltage, current, impedance, frequency, hexadecimal notation, basic memory read/write/modify operations).
  • Must-have: Familiarity with Linux and scripting (Python or similar); experience creating automation scripts.
  • Must-have: Practical debugging and technical investigation skills for electrical signaling and layer 1–2 networking issues.
  • Must-have: Regular onsite presence to perform hands-on testing and use lab equipment.
  • Nice-to-have: Hierarchical hardware design interpretation (schematic/layout) experience.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with microcontrollers, FPGAs, or programmable devices and using datasheets/programmer's manuals to control devices.
  • Nice-to-have: Direct experience with oscilloscopes and other lab/test equipment; additional knowledge of DDR, SATA, or related high-speed standards.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer, electrical, systems engineering, or a related technical field is required.
