Network Platform Development Engineer (PHY, Switch, SAI, NOS/SDK)
Role Summary
Individual contributor on the network platform software team responsible for developing and integrating PHY- and switch-based solutions for enterprise and cloud-scale environments. Work covers control- and data-plane features, SoC bring-up, and production-quality networking software.
Experience Level
Senior. Posting specifies Bachelor's degree holders with 8–18 years of experience or Master's degree holders with 6–16 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver, optimize, and validate networking features across Switch and PHY platforms; collaborate with hardware and cross-functional teams to enable production systems.
- Develop and optimize control-plane and data-plane functionality for switch and PHY platforms (L1/L2/L3).
- Design and tune high-performance switching fabrics: packet processing, QoS, congestion control, and telemetry.
- Implement and integrate security and timing features such as MACsec, retimers, SyncE, and PTP.
- Bring up new Switch and PHY SoC platforms and ensure hardware-software interoperability.
- Contribute to and integrate with open-source projects (SONiC, SAI, Linux kernel, OVS) and participate in standards discussion where applicable.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, CI/CD processes, and automated testing to maintain code quality.
- Troubleshoot performance, scalability, and interoperability issues in complex systems.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience. Must-have items listed first, followed by desirable skills.
- Must-have: Strong proficiency in C and C++; production experience with Python; experience with Linux kernel and device drivers.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with SONiC and SAI, and practical knowledge of OVS or comparable dataplane software.
- Must-have: Deep understanding of Ethernet switching, PHY programming, and Layer 2/3 networking protocols; practical experience with MACsec.
- Must-have: Experience with system bring-up, debugging, and validating switch/PHY SoC platforms.
- Nice-to-have: Lua scripting; familiarity with ARM multicore SoC architecture and high-speed packet I/O; SerDes/retimer experience.
- Nice-to-have: Experience implementing SyncE, PTP, and contributing to open-source networking projects or standards efforts.
- Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills; ability to independently plan and deliver complex technical projects.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (posting specifies 8–18 years of relevant experience for this level) OR a Master's degree in a related field with 6–16 years of relevant experience.
