Nanofabrication Engineer
MicrosoftJob Title
Nanofabrication Engineer
Role Summary
Work within Microsoft Quantum's Copenhagen laboratory to fabricate nanoscale components and integrate new process capabilities into manufacturing flows. Collaborate with physicists, equipment engineers, technicians and designers to execute experiments, analyze results and improve process performance.
Perform hands-on cleanroom work, contribute to data-driven process improvements, and take increasing ownership of process modules and manufacturing activities.
Experience Level
Mid-level. No specific years stated; the role expects practical cleanroom and micro/nanofabrication experience and the ability to develop technical expertise.
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities include:
- Execute and develop nanofabrication process blocks and manufacture standardized and exploratory nanoscale components.
- Plan, run and analyze structured experiments to improve process performance and understanding.
- Analyze fabrication, metrology and test data and communicate engineering conclusions.
- Identify process excursions, perform root-cause analysis and support corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot fabrication processes and equipment in collaboration with equipment engineers and technicians.
- Support process qualification, monitoring and continuous improvement activities.
- Create and maintain process specifications, work instructions and engineering documentation.
- Contribute to development of data-analysis, automation and AI-assisted workflows for laboratory and fabrication activities.
- Follow and model laboratory and cleanroom safety standards and escalate safety concerns.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and relevant preferred experience.
- Must-have: Practical experience in a cleanroom or semiconductor/microfabrication environment.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with micro- and nanofabrication processes such as lithography, deposition, wet chemistry, dry etching and associated metrology.
- Must-have: Ability to plan and execute experiments, analyze experimental/process data, and draw engineering conclusions.
- Must-have: Experience troubleshooting fabrication processes and tools; able to collaborate with equipment engineers and technicians.
- Clear documentation skills for experimental results, processes and engineering learnings.
- Preferred: Experience with electron-beam lithography, photolithography, thin-film deposition, plasma processing or dry etching.
- Preferred: Exposure to manufacturing systems and methodologies such as MES, SPC, process control or failure analysis.
- Preferred: Interest in applying AI tools to engineering workflows and data analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication in English and ability to collaborate across teams.
- Other: Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and export-control citizenship verification requirements.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
