MTS, Interface Pathfinding Hardware Development Engineer
Micron TechnologyJob Title
MTS, Interface Pathfinding Hardware Development Engineer
Role Summary
Own end-to-end electrical characterization for a high-speed interface test-chip program, including planning, bench hardware and automation, measurement uncertainty, and sim-to-silicon correlation. Work within a small, senior cross-disciplinary team (analog, digital, layout, and signal integrity) and coordinate with the Chip Lead and other engineering experts.
This is an individual-contributor, foundational hire expected to expand in scope with successful execution.
Experience Level
Senior - expects extensive, multi-year experience (typically 10+ years) owning semiconductor characterization or test-engineering programs.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include planning, building, and executing characterization campaigns and infrastructure.
- Derive traceable electrical characterization plans from architecture specifications and SI link budgets.
- Specify observability and test-access (debug registers, loopback/pattern modes, analog test-mux) before RTL freeze.
- Design, develop, and own measurement benches, test boards, and automated data-acquisition frameworks.
- Measure, calibrate, and de-embed fixtures and bench hardware to isolate device performance from measurement noise.
- Lead first-silicon bring-up, link/timing integrity analysis, PDN and I/O-ring robustness testing across environmental corners.
- Co-author sim-to-silicon correlation reports and lead debug tiger teams for deviations.
- Sign characterization-readiness items for tape-out and produce post-silicon reports and correlation-gap tables.
- Define equipment roadmaps, represent findings to vendors and standards forums, and mentor junior engineers.
- Architect and deploy AI-assisted characterization pipelines for plan generation, data analytics, and predictive sim-to-silicon correlation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven ownership of at least one semiconductor characterization/test program from plan through sign-off.
- High-speed time-domain measurement skills, including Rj/Dj separation and jitter transfer at multi-GT/s rates.
- Experience operating BERT and pattern generators/analyzers for link margining; switch-matrix automation with per-path de-skew.
- Expertise in root-cause analysis and corrective action using PCA and design-of-experiments.
- Instrument automation for characterization across process corners and operating conditions.
- PDN and load-transient measurement experience and judgment on realistic bench reference-clock and supply-noise.
- Development of simulation plans to pre-validate test approaches; applying DOE to characterization.
- Frequency-domain fixture de-embedding (VNA S-parameters, 2x-thru or TRL, TDR) correlated to field-solver models.
- Technical representation of engineering teams to customers and vendors; cross-organizational leadership in methodology/tool adoption.
- Experience building and deploying agentic-AI workflows for analysis, automation, and predictive modeling.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with silicon photonics and optical measurement techniques.
- BER-bathtub extrapolation, eye-mask methodology, and understanding of CTLE/DFE equalization effects.
- On-die calibration verification and correlating on-die PDN impedance to power-integrity simulation.
- Split-lot process-corner characterization correlated to STA corners.
- Participation in JEDEC or external forums and a technical presentation record.
- Strong written and verbal communication of complex technical issues.
Education Requirements
MSEE with 10+ years, or BSEE with 12+ years, in semiconductor characterization or test engineering; includes ownership of at least one program from plan through sign-off.
