MTS Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Technical leader responsible for defining architecture and long-term strategy for Common Services firmware across multiple SSD product generations. Work spans hardware, silicon, system software, and product teams to improve performance, reliability, and development efficiency.

Experience Level

Senior - requires at least 7 years of embedded firmware development experience and 3+ years of SSD industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Define and evolve Common Services firmware architecture and technical strategy across SSD products and storage platforms.
  • Lead design of embedded firmware solutions, establish engineering standards, and drive architectural decisions to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Partner with hardware, silicon, system software, and product teams to solve system-level challenges and optimize the storage stack.
  • Communicate architecture plans, technical risks, and technology recommendations to engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Mentor senior engineers, promote engineering excellence, and lead adoption of AI-assisted development practices.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • 7+ years of embedded firmware development experience with architectural ownership and technical leadership in the storage or semiconductor industry.
  • 3+ years of SSD industry experience with expertise in Common Services firmware, ARC processors, compilers, and build environments.
  • Expert-level proficiency in C and/or Rust.
  • Deep knowledge of PCIe/NVMe storage architectures.
  • Experience working across hardware, silicon, system software, and product teams to deliver complex technical solutions.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience defining firmware architecture and long-term technical strategy across product platforms.
  • Expertise in firmware performance analysis, optimization, benchmarking, and system-level debugging.
  • Experience with RISC-V processors, Python-based automation, and full-stack embedded systems.
  • Track record of technical innovation (patents, publications, standards contributions, presentations).
  • Experience evaluating and applying AI/ML to improve engineering productivity or product capabilities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field was specified.
