MTS Field Application Engineer — RF & Photonics
Role Summary
The Field Application Engineer (FAE) engages RF and photonics customers early to assess technical requirements, propose GlobalFoundries (GF) technology solutions, and drive design-winning opportunities through to tapeout. The role works cross-functionally with account teams, product marketing, and internal technical experts to convert opportunities into revenue.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum 10 years of experience in semiconductor design, tapeout, and process engineering.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on customer engagement, technical advocacy, and cross-functional coordination to win designs on GF technologies.
- Engage customers to understand technical needs for semiconductor IC product development (RF and photonics).
- Assess competitors and articulate GF value propositions to win designs.
- Create application-specific technical presentations and proposals with account managers and product marketing.
- Integrate technical and commercial terms with account teams to produce design-winning proposals.
- Identify and resolve technical issues to convert design wins (DWIN) into product tapeouts.
- Advocate internally for product/feature enhancements when competitive gaps are identified.
- Perform work in compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.
Requirements

Must-have: Minimum 10 years in semiconductor design, tapeout and process.

Must-have: Working knowledge of IC chip design flows and tools from architecture through performance characterization for RF and photonics technologies.

Must-have: Technical program management, problem-solving, ownership, teamwork, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

Must-have: Travel up to 20% (primarily domestic with some international travel).

Must-have: Fluency in English, written and verbal.

Nice-to-have: Direct experience with IC chip design flows and EDA tools; experience at chip or module level.

Nice-to-have: Exposure to Digital/Analog Mixed Signal, HV Power, eNVM, millimeter-wave, silicon photonics, or SoC integration.

Nice-to-have: Business development experience within the Defense Industrial Base or related government agencies; project management skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (for example, applied physics). Preferred: Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. "Or equivalent practical experience" is acceptable where stated.
