MTS - Design Enablement (PDK Technical Program Management)

Role Summary

The Design Enablement Engineer develops and maintains Process Design Kit (PDK) components and the automation that produces them. The role is part of the Design Enablement team responsible for creating device libraries, tech files, runtime code for EDA tools, and ensuring PDK quality for internal and external customers.

This role collaborates with process and modeling teams, performs QA for DRC/LVS/SPICE flows, and documents limitations and usage guidance for PDK deliveries.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include development, maintenance, validation, and documentation of PDKs and associated automation.

  • Develop device library components for Process Design Kits (PDKs).
  • Develop, deploy, maintain and support collections of tech files and runtime code consumed by EDA tools.
  • Design and maintain automation tools that model the fab process for PDK generation.
  • Review and interpret process design rules and SPICE model documentation to derive PDK specification data.
  • Create and maintain test cases for PDK verification (DRC, LVS, SPICE) and perform QA checks before delivery.
  • Prepare and update release notes and application notes; document known limitations, issues, and workarounds.
  • Work safely and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.

Requirements

Concise list of must-have and nice-to-have technical skills, excluding degree information (see Education Requirements below).

  • Must-have: ~6 years' experience in the semiconductor and/or EDA industries; solid knowledge of electronic devices and semiconductor theory.
  • Must-have: Experience with CAD systems for IC design (for example, Cadence IC/Virtuoso or equivalent).
  • Must-have: Strong technical problem-solving skills and attention to detail; able to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Cadence Skill and pcell development and exposure to Virtuoso layout/schematic flows.
  • Nice-to-have: Scripting experience (Perl, Tcl, Bash) and prior Unix/Linux experience.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with ML/GenAI applications related to EDA or design enablement.
  • Nice-to-have: Strong communication skills for writing release/application notes and documenting limitations.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent required. Master's degree in those fields is preferred. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable where stated.
