Job Title
MTS ASIC Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
The MTS ASIC Physical Design Engineer will lead end-to-end physical implementation of high-performance ASIC blocks and full-chip designs at advanced process nodes. The role works within the physical design team and collaborates with RTL, verification, layout teams, EDA vendors, and foundry partners to meet timing, power, and area targets.
Responsible for developing and refining physical design methodologies, automation, and signoff flows to improve design quality and throughput.
Experience Level
Senior β 10+ years of ASIC physical design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading physical implementation, driving closure and signoff, and improving flows and automation.
- Lead floorplanning, placement, clock-tree synthesis, routing, and signoff for blocks and full-chip designs.
- Own block and full-chip implementation for high-performance ASICs in advanced nodes.
- Drive timing closure, power optimization, and area efficiency across multiple design iterations.
- Develop and refine physical design methodologies, flows, and automation scripts.
- Perform static timing analysis (STA), signal integrity (SI), IR drop, and electromigration (EM) analysis.
- Collaborate closely with RTL, verification, and layout teams to ensure design feasibility and optimal implementation.
- Debug and resolve complex physical design and signoff issues.
- Work with EDA vendors and foundries to enable best-in-class design practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 10+ years of ASIC physical design experience with proven tapeouts in advanced nodes.
- Deep expertise in floorplanning, hierarchical design, placement optimization, clock-tree synthesis, routing, static timing analysis, and physical verification.
- Strong experience with industry-standard EDA tools (e.g., Synopsys ICC2, PrimeTime, Cadence Innovus).
- Solid understanding of timing closure, signal integrity, power analysis, IR drop, and physical verification.
- Proficiency in scripting (TCL, Python, Perl) and experience developing automation and physical design flows.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.
Preferred:
- Experience with multi-die designs and high-speed interfaces.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
